I also came across a series called Paper Faces by Spanish
graphic designer, Hector Sos. I really like how the pictures are eye catching
but the technique that has been used is quite simple. I think it is pretty
versatile and could easily be adapted and developed and possibly used in our
own work.

Kate Fichard - Totem De Vie.
One of the first photographers I found with work related to
this theme was Kate Fichard and her series: Totem De Vie. In these photographs
the face and most of the body of the model have been covered with random items,
I think it suits this theme well and has a similar feel to the photographs by
Ben Toms.
I think the photos have quite a fun element to them, and
provide a lot of inspiration for this project.
Selfies.
The theme for the exhibition will be Selfies. In the last
year selfies have become a big part of modern culture, even earning the title
of Oxford Dictionary’s Word of the Year in 2013.
At the Oscars ceremony earlier this month Ellen De Generes took a selfie with a group of actors and actresses at the ceremony, with the goal of creating the most retweeted selfie ever. They succeeded with a total of over 2 million retweets before the ceremony had even finished.

However, there will
be a little twist to the theme. We’ll be focussing more on the idea of a
Conceptual Selfie. Photographs by Ben Toms in Garage magazine were the first
images we were shown that portray the idea of conceptual selfies. The idea is
to have the face shown in an unusual way, which could entail it being made up
or covered by a variety of items and materials or by distorted photography.
The Brief.
As part of our Fashion Media and Communication project we
have to create a blog. Throughout this project I will use this blog to show
ideas, inspiration and progress made in my work.
The brief I have chosen for this unit is designing and creating an exhibition space for the final year degree show which takes place in London in June. I will be working as part of a team for a live client, developing my skills in print/graphic design and visual merchandising.
